Lake County pushes back on massive annexation east of Eustis
EUSTIS – Eustis City Manager Ron Neibert last week defended the city’s request to annex a a chunk of Lake County that stretches 11 miles east of its main drag.
The proposed annexation would expand Eustis’ borders. It would also mean that about 700 county residents would become city residents – and taxpayers – and that the city would take over providing them with fire services.
Complicating Eustis’ request, which must be approved by the Lake County Commission, is that the city of Mount Dora is vying to provide services to the same stretch of land. Read more...

MOUNT DORA — Carl Smith recently combined his two loves — music and food — into one vision opening Rockin Café on Donnelly in downtown Mount Dora.
“I felt like this was a great fit for the area because there wasn’t anything else like it,” Smith said. “Although I can’t sing or play an instrument, music has always been a part of my life and I want to inspire local artists to come and play.” Read more...
