Mount Dora bakery opened in honor of owner’s late mom
After the unexpected death of her mother, Terese Roth re-evaluated her life as an emergency room physician at AdventHealth Orlando. Roth decided life was too short to not do what she loved, so she quit her career of 13 years and started her baking business.
“It was one of those moments in life where you realize you aren’t doing what you truly love,” Roth said.
Lake Cares Food Pantry turns 10, keeps serving the hungry
A decade ago, meat was a hard-to-come-by item. Lake Cares was able to help 49 families on a Saturday morning, but it sometimes ran out of food. Each family got about three days worth of eats. Later this month, Lake Cares will celebrate its 10th anniversary helping feed the hungry in Lake. The Mount Dora nonprofit doesn’t run out of food these days, and it served 48,902 people with 441,000 meals in 2018. Today, clients get food for a family of four for eight to 10 days, along with 10 cuts of meat in their bags.
