Mount Dora, garden club plant tree in honor of Arbor Day
MOUNT DORA — The Lakes and Hills Garden Club, along with officials from the city of Mount Dora, hosted its annual tree planting Friday to honor Florida Arbor Day.
MOUNT DORA – The Mount Dora City Council, which has been under pressure to improve the parking situation in their bustling downtown area, is proposing to limit the amount of time visitors can stay in their parking spots during prime hours.

Mount Dora Patriot Cruise and Salute becoming Veterans Day tradition
Abato and Jaskulski are the founders of the Mount Dora Patriot Cruise and Salute. The annual Veterans Day celebration takes place on the shores of Mt. Dora's Gilbert Park.
Each year between 10 and 30 veterans and their families are treated to a two-hour recreational boat tour on the Harris chain of lakes. The celebration continues with a color guard salute and prime rib lunch.
Mount Dora adds an ‘Officer Friendly’ to help downtown
MOUNT DORA — When downtown merchants met with city officials recently, parking and safety concerns were two of the biggest issues brought up to officials.
In response, the Mount Dora Police Department has beefed up patrols during key days and hours. And when the two sides hold a second meeting on Jan. 22 at 6 p.m. at the W.T. Bland Library, located at 1995 N. Donnelly Street, Police Chief John O’Grady will talk to participants about the new role of one of his officers.
Train service out of Tavares to continue rides, special events
The new train service out of Tavares transported close to 45,000 people to the North Pole, aka Eustis, over the holiday season.
That is thanks to the Polar Express train ride that simulated the events that took place in the 2004 musical of the same name.
